Google accelerates and strengthens HTTPS connections in Chrome for Android
The HTPPS connections are focused for maximum security websites we visit. Encryption however varies from one browser to another. So far Chrome for Android has been using AES-GCM a rather old protocol . But this will change now that Google has been working for many years in most modern safe and fast encrypted.
After its launch in desktop Chrome Android reaches new ChaCha20 and Poly1305 for encryption and for authentication . The work behind this is huge and on a technicality completely out of reach but it is very interesting to see how slowly working to implement new and more optimized solutions.
From February 2014 almost all HTTPS connections through Chrome using this new cipher suite. But it is a slow adoption process . To check what kind of security we only have to click the lock bar URL and we will open a tab. If you ChaCha20 - Poly1305 is the new while the former is AES_128_GCM.
All this work is due to Professor Dan Bernstein of the University of Illinois at Chicago. A renowned researcher who has got a simple design for an open source algorithm used by one of the world's most popular browsers. Good to encrypted with a commitment to this caliber and expect to reach all sites soon.
Should we give more importance as crucial as this?
