Intel ends the 64-bit x86 Android 4.4 KitKat
Intel has finished transcribing and finalize the kernel code for 64-bit version of the Android operating system for smartphones x86. The software is ready to be installed on phones that incorporate the next 64-bit Atom Merrifield. Intel has been making contributions to the code of Android 4.4 KitKat since he left but before . Now communicate from their own website which is already available for those who want to install it on your computer and get to develop from it.
Intel has completed its work on the kernel which will ensure that future Intel chip devices can access a fully functional version of Android architecture and support.
Android 64 bits arrive first to the Bay Trail tablets driven by the tablets and then with the next generation of Atom processors. These tablets have very competitive prices almost always below 200 € and offer a yield close to that we get now with the current Qualcomm processors.
The code completion paves the way for other manufacturers charge base version of Android x86 -based KitKat. Besides that once the kernel has been completed others can worry about creating your own applications or interfaces without fear of encountering incompatibility problems with the source.
This leap to 64 bits means that developers will have to create their own compatible applications .One step that is still far but with the rise of this architecture will see increasingly seeing.
Intel and Merrifield chip this year will target high-end devices and we can certainly see at MWC in February. Intel did not mention smartphones at CES but will in the event dedicated to them.
The race for the 64-bit Apple initiated and begins to look like A7 have rivals with the arrival of Intel and Qualcomm or Exynos future. Its usefulness has been questioned but what is certain is that on cold data provided by benchmarks win-win in all aspects.
Intel wants to break through in an industry completely dominated by ARM . The arrival of the 64 bits could open the door to their chips. Merrifield will be based on a 22nm manufacturing process and will start shipping in the second quarter of this year. For the PC world whether in 14nm Broadwell is an incredible leap in mobile should be too. The future of Android and Intel looks very interesting. should not close the door on that in a future Android x86 is more popular than Android-based ARM but for now is a far cry from having to transcribe much code. Time will tell who ends up being more efficient solution.
Currently Intel will also betting on Windows but his interest in Android through the roof. So far we have completed the 64-bit version of Android 4.4 KitKat.
Will the day they consider Android as its primary operating system?
