Virtual reality is an untapped field and already several companies who are looking for solutions of all kinds. One is known Oculus VR creator of the famous sunglasses Oculus Rift and that was news a few days ago when it was acquired by Facebook for about 2000 million . The giant Samsung is not going to miss this train and a few weeks ago it was rumored that could be working on a similar device now from Engadget ensure that both companies are sharing technology to improve their products.
According to this report which Samsung is preparing a virtual glasses were full Oculus type but it would be more of a dock a kind of head support where the user would enter the smartphone taking advantage of its hardware. The phone would be placed with facing eyes and obviously the gadget would have different accelerometers and sensors to control without touching the display panel.
Glasses where the smartphone is the core
People close to the project say that Samsung would be using the kit specific software for mobile devices Oculus which is still in a very early stage and that the Korean company would have exclusive access. Regarding the design of these glasses-dock remark that will mount some physical buttons as the specifics of Android (Back Home and Multitasking) and other extras. Certainly if we think it is very strange to imagine a phone about 5 inches just a few inches from our eyes but from Engadget ensure that people were able to test the invention using terminals S4 Galaxy and the result is surprisingly good . It would also be possible to use the back camera of smartphones to see through them without having to take off the glasses and could lead to other uses of augmented reality. This idea is more attractive if you can think of it as an accessory since Samsung could sell as a supplement and to a more reduced price lacking all more expensive components like the screen dedicated processor or GPU. As for the controls sensors and motion detectors are given for it but could be fully compatible gamepads or even separate voice actions.
Technology exchange between Samsung and Oculus VR
Okay so the question is what shows Oculus VR helping Samsung? There's obviously something in return and response are screens. Reports indicate that Samsung would be providing panels Oculus OLED extremely small and incredible resolutions higher than 1080p.
Neither party has confirmed this information so for now we must be cautious as this does not mean that Samsung will launch this accessory-dock virtual reality in a few months. We may never see the light but can serve as a basis for development of other products. Can you imagine playing with your smartphone on the head ?
